The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the standard exam for those overseas students wishing to enter university in the UK. Our IELTS classes focus on exam technique and emphasise the linguistic skills you will need to be a success at university. We run IELTS courses in the daytime and evening throughout the year.
IELTS examinations can be taken any month you choose, but we recommend that students study for at least 12 weeks on a course before attempting the exam.
At Southampton Language College, you can join an IELTS course when you are an Intermediate level (B1) as the grading system is very broad. Bands of ability range from 1.0 to 9.0, though most universities require an IELTS score of 6.5 or above. For some challenging courses at prestigious universities, they may ask for 7.5. A good upper-intermediate student would probably score around 6.5, while a very strong advanced student may score 7.5 or above.
Our courses concentrate on the Academic Module, but if you want to do the General Module, our courses can accommodate you. The exam has 4 papers and is done in a single day.
After taking your IELTS exam, you should receive your results grade within 2 weeks.
Important Note – IELTS Examinations are externally assessed and registration is not included in the course fee. The registration fee is £135 and is payable at Reception.
